I thought I had set my computers up to my share printer but could not send a page at all even though I can see my XP computer. I added my printer by name etc but the page still would not print. I permited printer sharing on both XP machine and Vista computer but the only way I could eventually use my printer was to install the drivers and connect via a hub my USB cable working independently for both.
Is there something which needs to be tweaked on an XP computer or a Vista one to allow only printer sharing? I have a router and have no problems sharing my connection and can see both computers. I didn't run the full network wizard as i really only want to share the printer but can't.

Sharing Printer via LAN
Be sure to check under printer properties that your printer is "online". I had that same problem, put it back online and it works fine.

Thanks Jim I will check this again next time I am trying I thought I had looked everywhere but this may be the reason hopefully it is that easy.
